DAY 2 : NAIROBI - SWEETWATERS (OL PEJETA PRIVATE CONSERVANCY)

After breakfast, you’ll transfer to Wilson Airport for a short light aircraft flight to Nanyuki, in the foothills of Mt. Kenya. A short drive from the airstrip lies Ol Pejeta Private Conservancy and the luxury tented Camp, Sweetwaters. The reserve is more than 24,000 acres of privately owned land between the foothills of the Aberdares and snow-capped Mt. Kenya. Settle into your luxury tent and enjoy lunch before heading out on an afternoon game drive. Sweetwaters is also host to the Chimpanzee Sanctuary opened in 1993 and established in combination with Lonrho Africa, Kenya Wildlife Services and the Jane Goodall Institute. It began with just 3 orphaned chimps and today there are more than 40 chimpanzees and 16 qualified staff taking care of them. This afternoon you’ll game drive and visit the Sanctuary for both a fun and educational experience.

DAY 3 : SWEETWATERS

A full day at Sweetwaters allows time for both morning and afternoon game drives. There are an amazing array of wildlife in the conservancy, including the Big 5. You might also see grevy zebra, giraffe, thomson’s gazelle, ostrich, waterbuck and cheetah. Birdlife is prolific so be sure to have your binoculars handy.

DAY 4 : SWEETWATERS - MASAI MARA

A morning light aircraft flight takes you from the foothills of Mt. Kenya to the expansive plains of the Masai Mara, and your lodge perfectly set high on a bush-cloaked hill with the savannah stretched out as far as the eye can see. Settle in and have lunch before setting out on an afternoon game drive. The Masai Mara is Big Cat country, and if you are lucky, you might spot a pride of lion snoozing under the shade of a tree or the sleek cheetah surveying the plains for a quick meal.

DAY 5 : MASAI MARA

Enjoy a morning and afternoon game drive today. The Masai Mara is about 580 square miles of primarily grassland and riverine forest. It is the land of supleratives, as the Mara hosts over 95 species of mammals and 470 recorded species of birds. Among the plains game you’ll likely see are elephant, topi, eland, zebra and Thomson’s gazelles. Of course where there are plains game, there are predators and in addition to lion, you might also spot hyena, one of the more dangerous predators. Bird watching is thrilling in the Mara and among the more frequently spotted birds are vultures, marabou storks, hornbills and the beautiful lilac-breasted roller, which is the national bird of Kenya.

DAY 6 : MAASAI MARA - NAIROBI

There is time for an early morning game drive before breakfast and departure on the light aircraft flight back to Nairobi. Enjoy lunch at the Carnivore Restaurant, where you can sample special meats like ostrich, before visiting the former home of famous author Karen Blixen. Her home sits at the foot of the Ngong Hills and scenes of the movie “Out of Africa” come to live as you walk through her home. The afternoon ends at the Giraffe Center, where you’ll have fun interacting with the graceful Rothschild giraffes, including the opportunity to feed them pellets.

Depending on your schedule, transfer to the airport for home, full of African memories.
